Published: 09:35 GMT, 14 November 2014 | Updated: 14:50 GMT, 14 November 2014Previously the colour thousands of women desperately dyed their hair to disguise, grey has undergone somewhat of a makeover recently.
Led by a host of A-list celebrities from Rihanna to Pink and Kylie Jenner, silver locks have become a new -and niche- fashion statement.
Somehow the stale shade rocked by grannies the world over has become a must-have for those looking to push fashion boundries.

The youngest of the Kardashian clan is one of the most recent celebrities to voluntarily go grey, swifty followed by Orange Is the New Black star Dascha Polanco and model Charlotte Free.
The 17-year-old spent 12 hours at a salon to get her raven locks dyed a grey and greenish tint.
And Kylie Jenner was eager to show off the 50 shades of her new 'do as she took to Instagram to share a close-up shot of her lustrous tresses.
However the reality TV star is by no means the first to opt for the unusual colour.
As far back as 2012, the look was worn by Kelly Osborne, causing quite the stir in the press.
Speaking on her mother Sharon's chat show about her decision, she said: 'It's something I've wanted to do my whole life. 'I've always wanted to be young and have grey hair.
'To me, I'm 27, I've got three years left, the way I look at it, to have fun with it, because once you're 30, you look like a right idiot walking around with like rainbow, bright color hair and all different things like that.'
Notoriously edgy with her image, Rihanna chose to colour her extensions a silver shade during her 2013 world tour, posting a sultry picture to fans on Twitter with the caption: ''New color ice grey ish, call it #Brrr,' she tweeted. 'Grey is the new black! Blondies, it's quiet for y'all!'
Others who have decided that the dusky shade is for them are singer Pink, who turned grey, with a distinctively silverly tint, in 2010.
Jasmin Allen, senior colour master at Errol Douglas salon, says: 'Grey has definitely had a moment and a completely new take on actually opting for it. It really is, when styled correctly, the coolest new hue. I've seen an increase in interest among my younger clientele'
'There's been a gradual creep towards complete grey, with celebrities experimenting with red carpet looks hinting grey via lilacs, blues and greens. I've particularly liked the high silver interpretation of grey, it reflects the light in a way that very no other colour can'
'I recommend a Gunmetal grey on younger girls: a bold on trend statement that's easier to pull off in your twenties. It's a strong look and this not for everyone, so definitely needs to be matched with an overall statement look and attitude!'
Jasmin Allen, senior colour master at Errol Douglas salon gives her top five tips for those thinking of braving grey.
1. To avoid a stereotypical old blue rinse look , match your make up palette to offset the blue tones: Both Kelly O and kylie J tend to wear bright lips and tones that complement the grey. hot pinks and dark plumbs work well.
2. Smokey eyes are also very flattering as they pick up the smokey grey tones in the hair.
3. Going grey requires maintenance to avoid a faded look or it will look appear 'old'. Be prepared to commit to after care and re-touching at the salon. I wouldn't recommend trying this at home.
4. Don't over wash, it'll strip too quickly. Using sulphate free shampoo is vital (Moroccanoil Moisture Repair is great)
5. Using a Revlon colour ball in shade 1002 as a conditioner will keep grey hues intense and lifted whilst also conditioning for a great glossy finish. Available for purchase at salon
