Two-time champion Adrian Lewis eased into the second round of the PDC World Championship with a comfortable 3-0 win over David Pallett.

The third seed achieved a three-dart average of 101 - the best in the tournament - to set up a tie with fellow Englishman Keegan Brown.

"He made me play but I'm here to win the tournament," said Lewis.

Earlier, 18-year-old German Max Hopp caused an upset by knocking out injured 10th seed Mervyn King.

King, who had three cortisone injections to help a back problem, lost a final-set decider 5-3 as Hopp finished with a 161 checkout.

"I played well and did not expect to win," Hopp told Sky Sports.

"I had a feeling with the 161 to go for my dream. That's the best I've performed. I kept fighting and it makes me so happy."

In the second round, Hopp will face Dutchman Vincent van der Voort, who won the final two sets to secure a 3-2 win over John Henderson.

Van der Voort, the 23rd seed, said: "I never felt comfortable. I played rubbish but I'm in the next round."

BDO world champion Stephen Bunting beat Croatia's Robert Marijanovic 3-1 to set up a second-round match with fellow Englishman James Wade.

The tournament resumes on Saturday after a three-day break for Christmas.
